President & CEO
Dakkota Integrated Systems, LLC
As founder, chair, president and CEO of Rush Group, which operates Dakkota Integrated Systems, Detroit Manufacturing Systems and Rush Trucking Corporation, Andra M. Rush leads the largest woman-owned business in Michigan, and one of the largest Native American-owned businesses in the United States.
Ms. Rush holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Michigan State University and has dedicated her life to improving the lives of others.
In 1984, Rush borrowed $5,000 from her parents and used her credit cards to launch Rush Trucking with one van and two pickup trucks. Today, Rush Trucking Corporation transports goods for Fortune 100 companies across the U.S. and Canada with 850 tractors, over 1,450 trailers, and 800 employees and associates.
She launched Dakkota Integrated Systems in 2001, managing the complete system assembly of automotive interiors through integrated process and assembly expertise for original equipment manufacturers. Dakkota, a joint venture between Rush Group and Magna International Inc., employs some 1,400 highly trained team members who have helped the company earn awards for quality and world-class manufacturing from Chrysler Group and supplier quality excellence awards from General Motors.
President Barack Obama acknowledged Rush during his 2014 State of the Union address for creating manufacturing jobs in Detroit with the June 2012 opening of Detroit Manufacturing Systems, a joint venture with Faurecia North America — the first such plant opening in the city of Detroit in decades. The plant’s workforce has grown to nearly 1,000 employees, most living in Detroit, to meet the needs of its OEM customers.
Rush is also a member of the U.S. Manufacturing Council, the principal private sector panel that regularly advises the Commerce Secretary on government policies and programs and their impact on the manufacturing sector. She is an active member of several organizations, including the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, Business Leaders for Michigan, Detroit Economic Club, Detroit Regional Chamber, Downtown Detroit Authority and United Way. Rush has also served on supplier advisory boards for Chrysler and General Motors.
In October 2014, Andra Rush was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
